The 101HP 1.0 Up! TSi (or VW SpeedUp!). It is a nice effort, but still not enough to convince me that city cars are any good.

I bet it would be a ton of fun, however, being a Utahn I see no point in whatsoever of a car this small for me. It wouldn’t make any sense.

If it’s cheap enough it will sell
![]() 08/26/2015 at 12:51 |

I would drive that.
![]() 08/26/2015 at 12:52 |

Not a chance. There are too many good/great cars that are good or great in a city for me to fork over cash for something marketed as a city car that, like the rest, has the excitement level of an old sock with holes in it.

I’d rock one around Bermuda, the Caribbean, or a very cramped North/South American city, but I could never make a case to own one as a personal vehicle in the suburban US.
![]() 08/26/2015 at 13:01 |

Yep. 101hp in something that tiny has got to be such a hoot.
![]() 08/26/2015 at 13:05 |

Not unless it was very cheap. And not a VW.
![]() 08/26/2015 at 13:08 |

Great name. Wouldn’t buy one.
![]() 08/26/2015 at 13:12 |

See this has 101HP and weights as much as an old sock with holes in it, but I agree with you, so many cars that are nicer.
![]() 08/26/2015 at 13:13 |

Fully agree, not a vehicle for suburban america.
![]() 08/26/2015 at 13:13 |

Also probably not very good in the snow/dirt/highway/
![]() 08/26/2015 at 13:14 |
|
But is it enough of a hoot to be considered over larger more powerful cars?
![]() 08/26/2015 at 13:14 |
|
Well, we have two problems.
![]() 08/26/2015 at 13:14 |

Snow/dirt/highway sums up 95% of my driving.
![]() 08/26/2015 at 13:14 |

Oh, it is selling like hot cakes here.
![]() 08/26/2015 at 13:14 |

Same mindset.
![]() 08/26/2015 at 13:15 |

Even if you could buy a 2.0T used Audi for the same price?

My father was intregued by them last year.
![]() 08/26/2015 at 13:20 |

They are selling well, even with the BRL40k price tag.
![]() 08/26/2015 at 13:20 |

Seems pointless to have 4 doors on a car that small, that's extra weight. If you need to haul 2 kids around, golf still makes more sense to me. They never got the lupo or polo here, I wouldn't hold my breath.
![]() 08/26/2015 at 13:21 |

Well, the base 1.4 TSi Golf costs almost twice as much and they are available in 2-door flavor.
![]() 08/26/2015 at 13:27 |

Nope
![]() 08/26/2015 at 13:29 |
|
Whats the sticker price on the up?
![]() 08/26/2015 at 13:33 |
|
Eh, I’d rather just buy another 2nd gen Mini Cooper S, if I was going to get something that size.
![]() 08/26/2015 at 13:34 |
|
2nd Gen Mini S is still quite a lot more expensive.
![]() 08/26/2015 at 13:35 |
|
I'd rent one. I wouldn't buy one. I'm sure it's tons of fun, but I don't need my daily driver to be an efficiently-packaged city car.
![]() 08/26/2015 at 13:35 |

11 grand.
![]() 08/26/2015 at 13:39 |

Fast car slow or slow car fast. //shrugs
![]() 08/26/2015 at 13:39 |

How much does this run, give or take?
![]() 08/26/2015 at 13:40 |

Ok, take your pick.
TROLOLOLOLOL
![]() 08/26/2015 at 13:41 |

Even factoring in questionable VW reliability, a Cooper S could be even more temperamental.
![]() 08/26/2015 at 13:42 |
|
The TSi around 11 grand, the base Up! starts at 7k.
![]() 08/26/2015 at 13:46 |
|
Fair enough, most of the used ‘07-’10 MCS & JCW’s around here run 15-17k, so that is another 4-6k above the TSi. That said, I’d rather pay more to have the MINI instead of the VW.
![]() 08/26/2015 at 13:47 |

Me too, I’d never get me an Up!
![]() 08/26/2015 at 13:48 |

Eh, their issues are largely overstated. Though I will say that when stuff breaks, parts can be very pricey, just like on any other BMW product.
![]() 08/26/2015 at 13:49 |

Lol! No.
![]() 08/26/2015 at 13:53 |
|
Well I should I know, I’ve had a Cooper S in the family for ten years :’)
![]() 08/26/2015 at 14:12 |

Well played, sir.
![]() 08/26/2015 at 14:21 |

I would totally consider one of those. I always liked the styling (exterior and interior) of the Up, and more power wouldn’t hurt.
![]() 08/26/2015 at 14:56 |

No.
![]() 08/26/2015 at 15:53 |

Lol, I owned one for 3, and honestly still would if I didn’t need a larger vehicle (wound up replacing it with a Focus ST). Only issue I ever had was the tsb for the timing chain tensioner, and having to occasionally add a quart of oil about mid way between oil changes, and this was the case for most that I knew in the Houston Mini club as well, though there were a couple who had issues.
![]() 08/26/2015 at 16:44 |

Are you referring to an A1 or A3?
![]() 08/26/2015 at 22:25 |

No, because the Twingo exists.
